Gene Dunford — Umpqua Bank
Senior Managing Director and Senior Vice President
THE LATEST:
Dunford’s bank grew over the last year despite Covid-driven pressure on much of the industry. Umpqua reported 2020 deposit balance growth of 10% to $2.1 billion and a $72 million increase in noninterest income. The bank was not untouched by the pandemic, however, and was forced to add a $132 million provision for credit losses in anticipation of possible future defaults.
BACKGROUND:
Dunford, who joined Umpqua Bank in 2016 to open a corporate banking division, is a multidecade veteran of Los Angeles’ commercial banking sector. Umpqua is based in Portland, Ore., but has made the Southern California market a priority. Dunford’s team here specializes in middle-market and upper middle-market commercial and industrial companies. Dunford received his undergraduate degree in business marketing from Utah State University and an MBA from the University of Redlands.
