THE LATEST: In 2020, Moelis & Co. reported record annual revenues of $943 million, along with its largest quarter of revenues during the fourth quarter. Its collaborative business model comprising M&A, restructuring and a newly expanded capital markets group resulted in another year of growth, allowing it to remain one of the largest investment banks in Los Angeles. In October, Ken Moelis also entered the SPAC market, sponsoring Atlas Crest Investment Corp. His first SPAC vehicle announced a business combination with urban air mobility pioneer Archer Aviation in February 2021.
BACKGROUND: Moelis founded Moelis & Co. in 2007 and led its public debut in 2014. Moelis & Co. is a global independent investment bank with deal sizes ranging from $100 million to $160 billion. Moelis has more than 30 years of investment-banking experience. Prior to Moelis & Co., he was president of UBS Investment Bank from 2001 to 2007. Moelis serves on boards for the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School.
