Gene Seroka — Port of Los Angeles
Executive Director
THE LATEST:
The nation’s busiest container port moved 9.2 million twenty-foot equivalent units in 2020. A surge of pandemic-induced consumer spending helped boost cargo volume near 2019 levels last year, making it the fourth-highest volume year in port history. The port’s priorities for 2021 include job creation, cargo growth, infrastructure investment and accelerating zero-emission technology development. Seroka plans to remain focused on supply chain optimization and has called for nationwide port data connectivity to provide enhanced visibility, efficiency and choice for cargo owners.
BACKGROUND:
Seroka was appointed by Mayor Eric Garcetti in 2014, and in March 2020 Garcetti named him to serve as the city’s chief logistics officer. Seroka leads Logistics Victory Los Angeles, a response effort that helps to get personal protective equipment and emergency supplies throughout the supply chain. At Port of L.A., Seroka manages a $1.6 billion budget and is responsible for advancing major capital projects, growing trade volumes and promoting innovative, sustainable practices to strengthen the region’s economy.
