THE LATEST: Drury was named CEO of SoCalGas in June 2020. In March, the company announced a plan to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions in its operations by 2045. The move makes SoCalGas, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy, the largest gas distribution utility in North America to set a net zero target. It would eliminate not only the company’s own direct emissions, but also those generated by customers’ energy delivery by SoCalGas’ energy infrastructure.
BACKGROUND: Before becoming CEO of SoCalGas, Drury was the president of San Diego Gas & Electric, another utility regulated by Sempra Energy. Under his leadership, SDG&E made significant strides in modernizing the energy grid to enhance safety and reliability. Drury joined Sempra Energy in 1986 and has held various management positions, including chief energy supply officer; vice president of human resources, diversity and inclusion; and director of safety and emergency services. He serves on the board of the American Gas Association, the advisory board of the Fowler College of Business at San Diego State University and the community advisory council of Alzheimer’s San Diego.
