Stephanie Wiggins — Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority
Chief Executive
THE LATEST:
In April, Wiggins was chosen to become the first Black woman to lead the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. She will succeed Phillip Washington, the agency’s first Black CEO. Her first task as she takes office in June will be to lure riders back to the agency’s fleet of 2,200 buses and six rail lines after the Covid-19 pandemic. Later this summer, the agency is expected to break ground on the $900 million Airport Connector project. As Metro CEO, Wiggins will manage a budget of nearly $7 billion, oversee up to $20 billion in capital construction projects and lead an agency with 11,000 employees.
BACKGROUND:
Wiggins is returning to Metro after a two-and-a-half-year stint as chief executive of Metrolink, where she directed a six-county, 538 route-mile regional passenger rail network. During her previous tenure at Metro, Wiggins held several executive posts, including deputy chief executive. Prior to that, she served as project director of the congestion reduction/ExpressLanes program, where she implemented the first high-occupancy toll lanes on the 110 and 10 freeways.
