Ken Summers — Suffolk Construction Co.
General Manager for Los Angeles
THE LATEST:
Summers is overseeing Suffolk Construction’s work on the Fig & Pico Conference Center Hotels for New York developer Lightstone Group. The project consists of two towers next to the Los Angeles Convention Center that will host three hotels with a cumulative 1,150 rooms and ground-floor retail. Suffolk was also set to break ground this summer on a six-story, 92-unit apartment tower in downtown’s Skid Row being developed by San Francisco-based affordable housing nonprofit Mercy Housing and featuring prefabricated modular construction. However, in April, that project’s fate became uncertain as a federal judge halted permanent supportive housing projects around Skid Row and said local government funding should be redirected to emergency temporary shelters for the homeless.
BACKGROUND:
Summers joined Boston-based Suffolk Construction in December as the new general manager of the Los Angeles office, replacing Tom Donahue, who is now president of Milwaukee-based Glenn Rieder Inc. Summers previously spent 24 years in various executive posts at the Southern California office of San Francisco-based Webcor Builders Inc. Among the projects he oversaw were the W Hollywood hotel, Greenland USA’s Metropolis project downtown and the New Century Plaza condo towers in Century City.
