Francisco Rodriguez — Los Angeles Community College District
Chancellor
THE LATEST:
In February, the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees approved a three-year contract extension for Rodriguez. Assuming he serves out the extension, his 10-year tenure as chancellor would be the second-longest in the LACCD’s 52-year history. In March, the California Community Colleges Board of Governors approved the designation of East Los Angeles College’s South Gate campus as an education center, allowing LACCD to proceed with a $65 million campus upgrade. In November, Bank of America awarded Los Angeles Trade-Technical College a $1 million jobs initiative partnership to help students of color obtain the necessary education and training to enter the workforce.
BACKGROUND:
Since 2014, Rodriguez has been chancellor of the LACCD, the largest community college district in the nation with nine accredited colleges, 229,793 students for the 2019-20 academic year and an annual budget of $5.8 billion. In 2016, he led the campaign to pass a $3.3 billion local facilities bond. Prior to helming LACCD, Rodriguez served as president of Cosumnes River College in Sacramento and as superintendent and president of MiraCosta Community College in Northern San Diego County.
