Robert Bradway — Amgen Inc.
Chairman and Chief Executive
THE LATEST:
Thousand Oaks pharma giant Amgen saw revenue rise 9% to $25.4 billion in 2020 &emdash; despite the global pandemic &emdash; with several of its drugs posting double-digit sales gains. Net income dropped 4% to $7.3 billion &emdash; mostly due to costs associated with the company’s $13 billion acquisition of rights to psoriasis drug Otezla from Celgene Corp. in late 2019. Amgen’s latest acquisition was a $1.9 billion deal for Five Prime Therapeutics, which has been developing immunotherapy drugs to treat various cancers. This acquisition is part of Bradway’s push to refocus the company more on drugs to treat cancers as well as cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases.
BACKGROUND:
Bradway joined Amgen in 2006, becoming chief executive in 2012 and chairman a year later. Prior to Amgen, he worked as managing director at Morgan Stanley in London. Bradway is a member of USC’s board of trustees. He’s on the board at the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America and chairman of the CEO Roundtable on Cancer, a nonprofit devoted to cancer treatment and prevention.
