THE LATEST: Virgin Orbit completed its first successful launch in January, deploying several satellites into orbit in a demonstration mission that gave the company the ability to begin commercial launches. Virgin Orbit is already manufacturing rockets for upcoming missions at its Long Beach headquarters, and future customers include the U.S. Space Force and the U.K.’s Royal Air Force.
BACKGROUND: Hart joined Virgin Orbit as president and chief executive in 2017 after spending nearly 35 years at Boeing Co., where he had most recently served as vice president of government satellite systems. Hart also serves on the U.S. Investment Advisory Council and Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Task Force on Business and Jobs Recovery, which was established in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. Hart has a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Albany and attended the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program.
