THE LATEST: Larian purchased a 7,941-square-foot home designed by famed architect Gordon B. Kaufmann for $18.5 million. The two-story, six-bedroom property is located on the same street as his current house in Holmby Hills. Larian’s Chatsworth-based company opened offices in France, Italy and Spain, and named Martin Elliott as its chief financial officer. MGA Entertainment also signed a partnership with Magic Star, the children’s label of Sony Music U.K., to release new music from the company’s L.O.L. Surprise line of dolls.
BACKGROUND: Larian founded ABC Electronics, which later became MGA Entertainment, in 1982. In addition to its L.O.L. dolls and Little Tikes toys, MGA manufactures proprietary and licensed products including toys and games, dolls, electronics, home decor, stationery and sporting goods. Larian moved to Los Angeles from Iran in 1971 at the age of 17. He put himself through Cal State Los Angeles by washing dishes and earned a civil engineering degree.
