Chief Executive
THE LATEST:
In March 2020, the American Film Institute launched a virtual movie club that discussed a different movie every day throughout the pandemic to unite fans. The institute also hosted both its annual AFI Fest in October and its AFI Awards in February online, honoring several movies and television shows that came out in 2020.
BACKGROUND:
AFI was established in 1967 as a nonprofit educational organization. Gazzale, a film historian and TV producer, became the AFI’s third president and CEO in 2007. He has been with the institute since 1992, holding positions including director of international programs in New York and director of AFI productions in Los Angeles. Gazzale has been a writer and producer of the AFI Life Achievement telecasts and has worked on “AFI’s 100 Years & 100 Movies” series.
