David Goodman — Writers Guild of America West
President
THE LATEST:
During one of the most challenging periods in Hollywood history, Goodman and his guild managed to bring an end to nearly two years of labor strife. The WGA reached agreements with major talent agencies CAA, WME, UTA and ICM Partners, as well as roughly 100 other agencies. The contracts put a sunset period on the practice of talent packaging and set limits on agencies’ ownership in production companies, among other things.
BACKGROUND:
Goodman was reelected as WGA West president in 2019. When not leading one of Hollywood’s most influential guilds, he is a writer and producer. Goodman began his career on the “The Golden Girls,” and he has written for more than 15 television series, including “Family Guy,” “Futurama” and is showrunner and executive producer “The Orville.” Goodman is a graduate of the University of Chicago.
