Gabrielle Carteris — SAG-AFTRA
President
THE LATEST:
In 2020, SAG-AFTRA reached an agreement with Hollywood producers on a new labor pact, a significant step in returning equilibrium to the entertainment industry. The three-year contract is worth an estimated $318 million and covers the 160,000 members who comprise Hollywood’s largest union. SAG-AFTRA also released film, television and commercial production safety guidance in partnership with other entertainment industry unions throughout the pandemic. In February, the guild voted to represent influencers as online content creation soared.
BACKGROUND:
Actor-turned-activist Carteris rose to fame portraying Andrea Zuckerman on Aaron Spelling’s hit 1990s teen drama “Beverly Hills 90210.” Her high profile among teens led her to become involved in youth-targeted organizations, including D.A.R.E. America, the Noxzema Extraordinary Teen program and Mothers Against Drunk Driving. As a producer, she created “Lifestories” and her own talk show, “Gabrielle.” Carteris was elected SAG-AFTRA president in 2016 and was reelected in 2019. During her tenure at the guild, she has been outspoken about age discrimination, gender parity and sexual harassment in the entertainment industry.
