THE LATEST: In February, Endeavor’s WME became the last talent agency to a reach deal with the Writer’s Guild of America, ending the guild’s 22-month strike. And in April, Endeavor Group made its stock market debut after pulling a planned IPO in 2019. The initial public offering helped the company raise some $500 million at an evaluation of about $10 billion. Amid the pandemic, WME laid off 20% of its workforce.
BACKGROUND: Whitesell and Ari Emanuel created WME Entertainment in 2009 when they merged their Endeavor agency with William Morris. In December 2013, they struck a deal with IMG to create WME IMG (now Endeavor), an entertainment, sports, fashion, media and events company. Before Endeavor, Whitesell worked at United Talent Agency and Creative Artists Agency. His clients include Ben Affleck, Christian Bale, Matt Damon, Jake Gyllenhaal, Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington.
