THE LATEST: CAA struck a deal with the Writer’s Guild of America in December, ending the guild’s standoff with the agency after 20 months. The agency was hit hard by the pandemic, furloughing 275 employees and letting go of 90 agents in July. Lovett called out WarnerMedia’s decision to release its 17-film slate on HBO Max at the same time as they debuted in U.S. theaters in 2021, saying the company did not consider the agency’s clients and violated their contracts.
BACKGROUND: Lovett began his career in the mailroom of CAA before rising through the ranks in the motion picture department. Today, he helps lead the global entertainment and sports agency, where he served as president from 1995 to 2021. In 1996, Lourd helped create the CAA Foundation, which works to involve the entertainment community in philanthropy, with a focus on education. Lovett sits on the board of DonorsChoose.org and has been honored for his activism, earning the Shoah Foundation’s Ambassador for Humanity Award, presented by Steven Spielberg.
