THE LATEST: Amid the pandemic, News Corp. revenues fell 11% for fiscal 2020. However, the company entered into a multiyear deal with Google in February to provide content for the digital giant’s news sites. The company also struck a multiyear deal with Facebook in March in which the tech company agreed to pay for additional stories.
BACKGROUND: Murdoch inherited a newspaper at age 22 from his father and launched his media career. The Australia native oversaw the expansion of 21st Century Fox into an international media and entertainment company and, in 2013, the launch of News Corp. as an independent public company. After selling 21st Century Fox to Walt Disney Co. in 2019, Murdoch still oversees a media empire that includes Fox News, The Times of London, New York Post and The Wall Street Journal. Murdoch became a U.S. citizen in 1985.
