THE LATEST: Spielberg produced several major movies in 2020, including Oscar nominee “The Trial of Chicago 7” and supernatural thriller “The Turning.” The Hollywood icon also has multiple film projects in the works, led by his remake of “West Side Story,” which is due in December. Spielberg is also working on the new installment in the “Indiana Jones” film franchise before exiting the project in February, and the TV series “Masters of the Air,” co-produced with Tom Hanks. In October, Amblin Partners signed a multiyear deal with Universal Pictures.
BACKGROUND: The top-grossing movie director of all time, Spielberg has helmed box-office behemoths such as “Jaws,” “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial” and “Jurassic Park.” He won Best Director at the Academy Awards for “Schindler’s List” and “Saving Private Ryan.” Spielberg formed his own production company, Amblin Entertainment, in 1981. In 1994, he partnered with Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen to form DreamWorks Studios. Spielberg formed Amblin Partners in 2015, and he leads the film and television production company in partnership with Universal Pictures, among others.
