THE LATEST: In February, Fifth Wall raised a $345 million special purpose acquisition vehicle, or SPAC, to facilitate a reverse merger deal to take a private company public. The firm initially planned to raise $250 million for its SPAC, but investor demand allowed it to bump up that target. Fifth Wall announced in April that the shell company would merge with Scottsdale, Ariz.-based property tech startup SmartRent.com Inc. in a deal valued at $2.2 billion.
BACKGROUND: Marina del Rey-based venture capital firm Fifth Wall Ventures Management invests in startups in the real estate technology, climate technology and retail sectors. Its investments include property management software developer Knock Inc., monthly gym and fitness membership service ClassPass Inc. and Culver City-based moving and storage startup Clutter Inc. Before co-founding Fifth Wall with fellow managing partner Brendan Wallace, Greiwe co-founded Invitation Homes Inc., a large owner and operator of single-family rental properties. Greiwe holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard.
