THE LATEST: PlayVS raised $10.5 million in November, bringing its total funding to more than $100 million since its launch in 2018. In January, the company acquired Vancouver-based GameSeta Esports Inc. in support of efforts to expand the company’s amateur esports platform into Canada. The company also announced a partnership with British Columbia School Sports, the regulatory body for high school sports in Canada’s third-most populous province.
BACKGROUND: PlayVS operates an online platform facilitating amateur esports competition at the high school and collegiate level. The company has developed partnerships with major game publishers like Riot Games and Activision Blizzard, as well as the National Federation of State High School Associations. Prior to founding PlayVS in 2018, Parnell was an early employee at Detroit-based internet service provider Rocket Fiber.
